It may sound hypocritical, but I agree with you. I am adamant about baiting; I quit letting my nephew hunt here because he had pumpkins all over. You can't put out bait for ducks or doves, but you can flood crops or mow sunflowers. I guess I justify my plots becuse I provide cowpea browse in the summer months and hopefully the corn will survive into winter/spring. I'm not a big deer hunter, but if I do I still have to be in the right place at the right time. Having a foodplot is no guarantee the deer will be there at any given time. I like to see things besides weeds grow and practice crop rotation every year. Farming, at no indictement of farmers, stretches from fenceline to fenceline. Gone are the weedy corners, in most instances, and brushy fencelines. Herbicides and insecticides take care of most problems but they leave little for wildlife to feed on, escape into, or just loaf. It's not a condemnation just a fact if we are to fed a hungry world. I hope I'm just doing a small part to succor the birds and critters. Call me a hypocrite, but I'm not alone.
