Thanks for the update and advice. A lot of us will be there someday.
A week ago I drove a parade float with folks from the nursing home, in a local hometown parade. This is the second year I've done it.The float was a people mover from the local threshing show and I pulled it with a tractor. It took a half hour for the personnel to load the old folks and decorate the float. The drive to the parade staging area was five blocks so I kept the speed to 3-4 MPH on the way there and about the same speed coming back from the parade. Even the riders who didn't look like they were noticing what was going on had a happy way about them. One older gent just sat there and stared down. I approached him, got down low on my knees so he could see me and we had a wonderful conversation. I'm sure it made his day even though he showed no emotion.
I have really come to appreciate the kind of work the personnel have to do every day. Took five ladies to help one gentleman get off. When they finally got him in the wheelchair they had to take a moment to catch their breath. All the time they were cheery and upbeat. They really gained my respect. Jim
