I have two 6V batteries that have been pushing acid out through the caps for the last 5 years. There's ALWAYS a puddle on top of each battery.
People tell me this is because the batteries were overcharged. They have NEVER been overcharged. I have been extremely careful about that. I keep them on a quality battery maintainer any time they are not in use.
This spring I took them off the maintainer and they were low on water. I filled them but most of the cells were dead, so I took them out and used other batteries I had on hand.
After sitting on the floor of my garage overnight, there is a PUDDLE on top of each battery again! They are not being charged. They are not connected to anything.
I'm getting rid of them but I really want to know what's going on here.
