Massey 35 dist. cap won't go down on dist.

Rebuilt Massey 35 and distributor cap will not go down on distributor. Am I missing a spacer ring? Don't remember there being one there when I took it down.When I bought the tractor a year ago from a used car lot (yeah, I know now!), it was stuck together to get it running to sell to the next yahoo. Busted block and all kinds of other surprises. Anyway is there some trick to getting the distributor cap on?
