your talking about the bull gear pinion and bull gear so i dont think it would be as critical as the diff. crown and pinion. probably have some gear noise but in an emergency it should work . just make sure it has the same tooth count and angle as some are 20 degree and some 25 degree angled teeth. you did not say what your working on.? in the case of the rear diff thats a different story... i would not replace a pinion with out the crown also. they are only sold as a matched set also. and more of a job to set up.
