It is funny how fortunes change. I graduated from college in ND in 1986. It was a time of farm bankruptcies foreclosures, the energy bust, high interest rates, low grain/cattle prices, Gordan Kahl and the Possie. You could not get a job washing dishes in a resturant. After graduation I went back to the farm. After about a hour of looking at brothers and cousins that wanted to farm and ranch, the farm, the grumpiness of my grandpa, uncle and dad, I knew my future was someplace else (I was lucky, I was able to buy most of the farmland when the farm imploded). ND is doing great now, and it is not just the oil in the Bakken and 3 Forks. Agriculture is doing great, the Chinese are building a grain terminal near one of my farms (Bucyrus: be able to load out 105 rail cars in 10 hours), MicroSoft has it second biggest Campus in Fargo, manufacturing is doing great. Anyway good for ND, and although the locals deny it will ever happen, I wonder what the next bust will look like.
