To be fair, there really is no comparison between an old Colt and a new Taurus. Due to dismal sales, Colt had to go to low volume, high finish/quality 1911s. While it looks like Colt is taking a stab at more regular models again, for a while (other than the 1991) Colt was almost pushed out of the classic Colt 1911 business.
Now, if you make a fair comparison between Colt and Taurus, you gotta look at the modern 1991 and when you do that, its a very level playing field. Most people would just say flip a coin, others would argue till they lost their voice that anything other than a gen-u-ine Colt is nothing but a copy. Any way you slice it though, its simply apples and oranges to compair an old Colt to a Taurus.
