As an Alumni of Penn State and a resident of Pennsylvania, I would like to share my opinion.
As for the original poster, he does have very good and valid points. Yes, I feel very sorry for both of your daughters. Penn State's Ag program is among the best in the world. Pennsylvania is one of the top 5 agricultural producing states in the country. No matter how many rows of corn are in Iowa, or how many cows are in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania does produce big numbers in the Ag world. Penn State produces very good stewards of the land and lots of future farmers of America.
Rest assured that the NCAA fine WILL impact the Ag program at Penn State. Anything shaped like a football, has always affected Penn State's other programs. The school lives and breathes football.
To keep this completely tractor related, here is a picture of me and tractors at Ag Progress Days, 2011 in Rock Springs, PA, just south of campus. Every year, Penn State hosts an event on their Rock Springs test plot farm. It is usually held in the middle of August.
Debating who was wrong or right in this matter is pointless, and should be avoided. The original poster has a valid and concerning point. Yes, funding will be cut, professors will move on, student enrollment will drop, and that will further the decline in ALL programs.
I had this EXACT thing happen to me when I was in high school marching band.
Our band director was accused by several girls of inappropriate conduct and was brought on charges for s e x u a l m i s c o n d u c t. The year that it happened, our marching band program was one of the best in the area. We had over 100 playing members in an double A (borderline single A) sized school. We marched in Disneyworld, and in parades all over the country.
The very next year, band membership was down 50%. It has now been 15 years since that time, and the current band membership is 9. 9 playing members. NINE...
One man CAN ruin the reputation of a school, or a program, or an entire community.
I'm truly saddened and hurt by all the comments which will doom my alma mater to the same fate. The school WILL NOT bounce back to what it was. Many of the upcoming freshman students will see dramatic changes in the school before they graduate. It is a very very sad situation, and not something we should be fighting about. We all know what happened was wrong, but, instead of bickering about whether or not some football program will be hurt, we should all be extremely sympathetic to the rest of the student body and the other programs where they are enrolled.
The students of Penn State do not deserve to bear the weight of one man's disgusting act. The NCAA doesn't have a clue as to how this will impact the school. You know they are just using the fine as a way to gather more money to promote their totalitarianism. I guess they don't understand that just because they have the power, doesn't mean they need to use it. It would be like Russia using nuclear arms, just because they can. disgusting a holes...

Today's Featured Article - Good As New - by Bill Goodwin. In the summer of 1995, my father, Russ Goodwin, and I acquired the 1945 Farmall B that my grandfather used as an overseer on a farm in Waynesboro, Georgia. After my grandfather’s death in 1955, J.P. Rollins, son of the landowner, used the tractor. In the winter 1985, while in his possession the engine block cracked and was unrepairable. He had told my father
