I think its EXTREMELY unfortunate that hundreds and maybe thousands of people will suffer for what Sandusky, Paterno and the others did or didn't do.
However, if someone knows their actions can have devastating effects on many others, this is a far greater deterrent than if the person's actions affect only that person.
I don't think it was right for the NCAA to take away all of Paterno's wins. They should have taken away just the ones that occurred after he knew about Sandusky.
The reason Paterno and the others tried to cover it up, was to protect the multi-million dollar football program and the revenue from it. The NCAA was correct in meting out sanctions to send a message that if those in control engage in wrong doing, it will negatively impact not only the individuals in charge, those "all important" major revenue earning programs, but also the lives and livelihood of many, many others.
My personal opinion - sports at all levels are out of control. Its become a cash cow, milked for everything they can get and frequently at the expense of education, players' health, etc.
I suggest we put this behind us and get back to farming and tractors.
