She got her rent and is doing fine. Her husband is in Germany right now on a rotation that will have him home in Oct. He did not re-up. So he is out for good when he gets home. When he gets home we will work out what he wants to do on his tractor. I have already set it up at the local bank if he just wants to pay me back and make payments to them for a few years. I tied the note to some of mine and he can get the interest at a real reasonable rate.
The related renter tried to float a cover story that I was mistaken and he was current on the rent. Well lets just say it did not work out for him. The last I heard he is going to lose maybe 500-600 acres of rented ground this year. The owners did not like what he was doing. I have been offered some of the ground. I told the owners to come back after the crop is done and I will talk about it then. I am not going to get involved in a land war. Once he is gone then it is the owners ground to do with what they want. I don't really want any of it but my sons may. I am picking up the farm we used to have just up the road. So that is another 275 acres. That is enough for me. I am getting too old to want to farm the whole country.
My family has rented ground around here for almost a hundred years. There never has been a missed payment of any kind in all of that time. So I have been able to usually find land if I really wanted it. The local owners that want security know who they can count on. That piece of mind is worth a lot to most of them that are seniors.

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Not a place one would associate with farms or farm machinery. I credit my parents for instilling a lot of good values, a respect for learning, a knowledge of various skills and a little knowledge of farming in me, amo
