Nope it was an add on after thought. I think the first US made tractor with true live hydraulics was the JD R starting in 1949 as an option. Ford did not go to live until the 1953 NAA. I think IH offered live hydraulics in 1953 or 54 as an option on the 300/400 series. The JD R also had independent PTO in 1949. The IH guys claim the first diesel tractor but that isn't true. They did make the first diesel US built wheel tractor but were beat out on the first US farm tractor on tracks by Cat and first wheel tractor by some company in Germany sometime in the 20's. IH's main claim to fame was the first true row crop tractor.
The reason that Ford failed to get live hydraulics sooner was price point. To keep the cost down Ford stayed with the flat head engine and non live hydraulics. They only upgraded when they felt market pressure.
