That is a field off my better upland corn, we got enough rain early on to get stalk growth and develop some ears, but they never filled out. Some of my corn 15 miles SW of there hardly set ears and what it did set are rubbery. Most of the beans look healthy but with the exception of one field in the creek bottom at home haven't set pods, have pods at home about 2" long that haven't filled out. We have a chance for rain tonight and Saturday, hoping we catch some so those beans have a chance. Was thinking about haying the beans if we missed the rain but I think unless I find someone who wants to buy them to grind I'll just leave them.
Dick, I hired mine dug out. From what I can tell he dug it to a few feet above the base of the dam to keep from seeping underneath. I don't worry about the girls, when the water comes again they'll find the best spot to drink.
Bruce, the corn is for grain, wish I owned a chopper I would have chopped about 2/3 of my corn. I have 2 fields that might make 50-60 in the bottoms.
Sweetfeet, I must admit Amanda was taking the pictures while I was feeding, she does a nice job capturing the beauty. We both enjoy the pictures you share. We started taking pictures again yesterday to remember the struggle. It's going to be hard but we'll make it somehow. We are fortunate to have enough hay to winter the herd.

This story is about the day my Grandfather Brown (true name) decided along with my parents to purchase a new Ford tractor. It wasn't really new except to us. The year was about 1967 and my father found a good used Ford 601 tractor to use on the farm instead of "Bob", our old mule.
