Just speaking personally,Dad quit and I took over 9 days before my 16th birthday. Milked cows for 33 years before I cracked and couldn't take it anymore. I don't see any problem with a kid who really wants to try it giving it a go. Like the old song says,I'd rather be sorry for something I've done than for something that I didn't do.

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
