J I'm in Abbeville Co. I've been toying with the idea of trying my hand at some small scale growing; would want to start at less than 100 acres, but most likely would never be over that. Current occupation has worn my back out and I need to consider another line of work. (Like farming would be a whole lot better for my back!! Ha!) The NH dealer in my area that I deal with has been real good on parts for my 5000 and has a good service dept.; Deere support on the other hand has been poor at best unless I drive 100mi round trip to Newberry or Ridge Spring where there are good dealers, (both stores under the same ownership) Might be hard to make a decent living some years with a small operation, but I'm getting to the point of really needing to change my career. Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
