I'm doing some conversions on my power steering system and was curious about some things.
If the pressure port out of my power steering pump is a 1/4" NPT port, that would mean the ID of this port is 1/4." Then a 3/8" tube/hose assembly attaches to this port's fitting and goes into my steering control valve.
The control valve pressure inlet port is -06 oring straight thread, so according to the -06 fitting, the OD is 3/8", making the ID somewhat smaller than 3/8 due to tube wall size, but larger than 1/4.
So my question is, since the port on my pump is 1/4" ID, I should be safe in going no smaller than -06 or 3/8" tubes and fittings on the rest of my system...correct? I just wanted to make sure my system didn't need -06 or -08 somewhere, like at the steering control valve pressure inlet for pressure/flow purposes, because if the pump pressure port is 1/4" than that right there is the flow limiting link in the chain...right?
