Pete, why the anger? I guess you missed my point: Newton's Laws of Motion don't really care if your civil liberties are being violated.
Now, since you ask why I should care about whether the individuals in question were buckled in, here's why: We have a county official and county employee traveling in a county vehicle on county business. Their injuries will be covered by the county's insurance and Medicare. It will be several months of rehabilitation, paid for by the county's insurance, before they return to work, during which I imagine they will continue to collect county paychecks. Now, if they had just followed the law, like 95 percent of people in our state do, it's likely they would have both walked away from the accident, sparing themselves a lot of pain and sparing the taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills. As a citizen, taxpayer and voter, I think I DO have a right to criticize the actions of public officials and employees, particularly when it affects where my tax dollars go. These people are not above the law, whether those laws are man-made or not.
