holding the drive end solid, you should be able to twist rotor in the direction of rotation & feel it move, than spring back when released. they don't move much & all are differant depending on amount of advance required. if spring plate, flyweights working properly, most common problem will be cam frozen to shaft--below rotor, most have felt washer, lube thru here. only way to 'see' it work is running on engine with timing lite, or dist machine. specs probably still out there for degrees advance @ given rpm.
