Last night about 10 o'clock, heard it thunder. Checked the radar and a storm was headed from the north and looked like we would be on the edge of it. Woke up to close lightning strike at 11:40. Wind picked up, lightning very close, heavy rain blowing on windows and very scary heavy winds. Started hearing hail. Got worse for a while and knew there would be damage. Son's house about 600 feet away got struck twice, once while he was trying to unplug phone line. His computer was smoking and of course is toast once again. Phone blew up. Other son lost his internet which feeds from our house to his office about 500 feet away. Trees across driveway and deep ruts in the gravel on the hills. Thank goodness my son picked his corn last week. My sorghum patches were flat on the ground this morning which makes it 10 times as hard to cut before syrup cooking. Think I will definitely look into lightning rods this time for my son's house as this is about the 5th time for him to have damage. On a positive note, we got 1.3 inches of rain and the pond looks better. Richard in NW SC
