It might be the temperment of the particular blue heeler, or training, but we had a little male that loved cats. He adopted our gaggle of farm cats. He would groom them ( lips rolled back and those qhort chewing motions with the front teeth. The cats loved it, kind of sloppy, but almost like being petted. He would herd his gaggle of cats away from anything he thought might harm them, and if necessary would defend them, standing between them and any precieved danger with a mouth full of snarling teeth. They all ate from the same dish. You could see in his manner, those were "his" cats and nothing better mess with them. LOL.
