I was out last night and came across this healthy looking but dead doe fawn. I found it next to our drying up pond bank. No sign of trauma or anything. I posted this picture on another website and people sent me articles from MO conservationist warning of EHD in mo deer because of the drought. I was wondering if other guys in Mo have come across dead deer by water. If so the mo conservationinst wants to know. I don't know what killed this fawn for sure, but I thought I would pass this on. I had not heard of EHD. I have heard of blue tongue and CWD but not EHD. Apparently when in drought conditions this fly lays eggs in the mud of dried up ponds and it infects the deer and the hemmorage in various organs. Sort of sad we have been watching 5 fawns grow in our backyard since they were born in May/June. I am thinking this was one of the 5.
