discovered somethin today, dunno if you are aware of it. my farmall h 12v genny quit charging, so as i got rained out this morning mowing, i figured i'd see whats wrong. had a copy of the handy dandy john t charging system diagnostic proceedure and song book, tested and the genny wasnt charging, so i figured i'd pull the genny, clean up the brushes, giver er a good cleaning and then do the motor test. being kind of damp from gettin caught in the rain, took a seat on the lawn chair in the barn, had a 12v car battery on the ground, held the genny with my knees, set of jumper cables and a jump wire to ground the field. grounded the field, hooked up the jumper cable to the genny case, then touched the positive to the arm terminal (tractor is 12v neg ground). holy cr*p!!!!!! never knew a genny could put out that kind of voltage!!!! retrieved the genny from about 10 feet away, checked to see if anybody saw that, then put the tractor back together. genny charges now. figured i'd pass along that important saftey tip to ya!!!!!!!
