Thats likely an 850 ?, 38,000 or 44,000 rear, same cab, but higher ceiling, 5x4 transmission and that big gas guzzler 534, they were tough trucks, also came in diesel, gas engines were starting to lose popularity, trucks were getting bigger, and you did not see many on the road in the years to follow, as I am sure you probably remember. I've run a few, one diesel, with a 318 detroit and allison automatic, bit of a dog on the road, but was a great site truck, had the quickest lifting dump body I have ever seen, well besides a mack 6 speed where you could use different gears as I believe those were somehow direct off the trans, same truck you could shift upward going backwards.
A good friends dad had a fleet of those 850's just scrapped out the last ones about 5 years ago, he had a trucking business and ran these well in the 80's, early 90's, besides his tractor trailers. Construction died off in the 70's for awhile, really hard on his business, he's still at it, semi-retired though.
One thing I remember about the cabs of those, "watch your head!" While getting out of the cab one day, on a site job working alone on a saturday, I bumped my head against the upper portion of the door while getting out, it was parked and running, next thing I knew I was lying in the grass looking up, hear that detroit running, no idea how long I was out, but gave myself a concussion according to the doc, never been knocked out before, nor since, never figured out how I did it, just knew to be careful climbing in and out of that truck.
Rich, it would probably be a blast to stop by and visit your place at the right time of year, who don't like looking at old iron ? LOL, if I did that here, 30+ tractors and what else, the town might show some interest about it, though they have relaxed, we used to have an inspector whom was a real jerk, think nothing of writing you up for an unregistered vehicle like my old 1980 K10 chevy, which I had to use to open the road many times when their plow trucks were late and I could not get in. They don't seem to bother people, unless they get a whole bunch of complaints first, before, someone would ride around looking for trouble, still you never know LOL!
