Sorry, unlike the 12 volt system which is easier to troubleshoot, theres just so many wires and connections on your system its hard for me to troubleshoot over the net (heck its hard enough if there lol)
Like jmor noted the charing is across both the series batteries and it involves the genny and VR with an idiot light (which comes on via switch) and no relationship to frame ground, so if the VR is okay????????? that about leaves the genny, even if it has new brushes there could be other problems. i.e. I doubt the switch is the problem......
If the genny was off the tractor and worked with, I wonder if it could have gotten polarized at the wrong polarity?? You might try that (hope the new VR wasnt damaged by incorect genny polarity???) then see what happens.
I normally tell people to check grounds and connections but that rats nest of a 24 volt tractor makes that more difficult but theres no bad VR or genny frame grounds to worry with on your system.
Im not "certified" over 12 volts or on New Generation much, maybe Tx Jim who is more familiar with that tractor can help???
If the VR is new (but Ive seen bad ones out of the box) and the gennys is polarized but still no charge, Id be taking the genny to a shop for a test.
Sorry, Im not much good on new generation or 24 volt over the net....... Kinda like Dirty Harry (Clint Eastwood) said ..." A mans got to know his limitations"
