These system use a magnet on the flywheel passing by the coil to create the low voltage to charge the coil. When the points open it create the high voltage for the spark. You say it has sat for a year first I would remove the coil and clean it down to new metal where it contacts plate it is bolted to. Next find out the clearance between the coil and the magnet. This is very critical set the fly wheel on but don't bolt it down now rock the magnet passed the coil until the poits open and watch for spark. Remember any rust in this area can cause problems. Walt
