I read some history about the Delco light plants, that big 4 cyl model had special interest for me. Remember in the teens that Chevrolet experimented with air cooled car engines, the "copper cooled " ?? people lugged car engines as slow as possible in those days, so the copper cooled car engines overheated terribly at those low rpm's and failed. Chevrolet recalled all of them and replaced the air cooled engines with water cooled. I thought that was the end of the copper cooled engine until I read the Delco light plant story. Kettering chose the copper cooled engine for the big 4 cyl Delco light plant. At the steady higher rpm in generator duty, the copper cooled engine worked fine and were in production for quite a few years. :)
