Hot ignition systems are for the average engine a lie. If gapped at specs, if spark jumps at 12,000 volts spark jumps at 12,000 volts. So what if the coil can make 45,000 volts. That spark is going to jump when the coil builds 12,000 volts. The way to make that resistance higher is to raise the compression so that it requires more voltage to spark or increase the plug gap. You are talking about a low HP engine to start with. So an increase of 10% isn't much....what 2 1/2 hp or less? You have to put it in perspective....a 10% increase for a 200 HP engine is 20 HP. That's a big jump. A 10 % increase on a 23-24 hp engine isn't much. Making the gap wider isn"t really going to help that engine unless you really improve flow oth in and out!
