Is a 20ga what the officer preferred or is that what the department gave him?
Police departments don't give officers much of a choice of weapons - especially bigger ones like New York. The union buys their "duty weapon" (Glock, S&W and Sig 9MM) and the city has a mandated minimum 8 pound trigger pull to keep officers from "accidently" shooting themselves.
