I bought a Remington 870 12ga. 4+1 and I love it. 18 1/2" barrel for home defense, shells are easy to find, Im a big guy so the 12 ga. kick doesnt bother me but a 20 ga. might be better, find a gun range and shoot both to see which you like better. the dealer told me about the "Home Defense Stack" which is you load a slug, then 2 buck shot, then 2 bird shot. if the guy is still moving after the bird and buck shot then the slug will take care of the rest. In reality, just the sound of the action loading your first shell into the chamber will send almost all running but you should think long and hard about if your willing to shoot someone, I know I thought about it for weeks and concluded that if my family is in harm (serious harm) then I would do what it takes to protect them.
