While I strongly dislike the idea of having to kill another human being, the legal system has taken away the option to shoot in defense of one's life or property and merely wound an intruder.
There are real cases where a criminal was shot, wounded, then successfully sued the person who shot them even though that person was shot while committing a criminal act.
Because of this, those of us who make decisions to protect ourselves and our property are forced to use large caliber weapons and shoot to kill.
