Most of us have pretty much given up on Columbus Day- about 30 years ago, the state and local guvments traded the paid holiday for the day after Thanksgiving, so we could have a 4 day weekend. Feds continue to get Columbus Day off, and I suppose they get the day after Thanksgiving off, as well.
And if that didn't finish it off, the politically correct clan decided several years ago that we should all diss Columbus rather than celebrate him, because him discovering America was what started the subjugation of the Indians (excuse me- Native Americans). Don't know where that leaves the Federal workers- maybe if they take the position that they don't give a hoot about Columbus, but rather, just want another paid day off, they're OK. At least, it would certainly be believable.
In other news, some school district somewhere has decided that coaches can no longer make athletes run laps as punishment for screw-ups, as that is a form of corporal punishment.
Someone awaken me when the sane people resume control of the asylum.
