point setting on a 1949 8N with a front mounted distributor

This tractor has suddenly started to run on two cylinders. We rebuilt thr carb and replaced the distributor cap and rotot whuich had been damaged when the cap came loose on one side. hoe do you work on the points when you can"t see them ? ordo think we have a different problem ? i will appreciate help from any of you experts Thank you Ken
