How about the Fire protection code? Written by NFPA of which the folks that make fire protection and fire fighting apparatus belong to and run. They write in their codes so that fire apparatus has an expiration date so after so many years the detector or sprinkler head or extinguisher or truck has to be replaced simply because they want to sell you a new one. Similar story with ASME and the elevator codes, you have to have a maintenance contract with a company that has licensed technicians, they don't have to come on your site or actually do anything it's just a requirement to have the contract for Lube & Inspect to keep your friggin permit.
