Like others have said, just call your insurance agent and ask them. I've bought several vehicles across state lines and in every case, I was fine. My particular insurance company gives me 72 hours to report a "new to me" vehicle. I've never tested that though as I just call my agent when I take possession. Never had a problem with tags, a bill of sale has always been enough.
