Ford had a good 4.0 OHV engine, which was still available when the OHC version came out. As has been stated already, the OHC version is a POS! It looks like someone was doodling on a napkin during a New Years Eve party after they had one too many. Why anyone would even design an engine like that much less build it is beyond my comprehension. A lot of them didn't last that long. The same can be said for the diesels. The 7.3 was a great engine, then they came out with the 6.0 and I have heard nothing good about them. Goes back to the old adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". The 3.0 OHV engine that powered millions of Taurus' was relatively trouble free, the 4.0 OHV was a good engine. the 4.6 V8 relatively trouble free. Since I retired I have lost track of what engines are available in which vehicle. But it is a matter of knowing which engine performs and which ones don't.
