I am looking at two bottles of "HEET", yellow bottle which is Methyl Alcohol (Methanol) and "Iso-HEET", red bottle which is Isopropyl Alcohol. The Iso-HEET is recommended for all engines including 2-cycle and diesel.
Both versions will treat 20 gallons of fuel. Adding additional amounts will simply cause to carbureted gasoline engines to run lean however alcohol will reduce the cetane rating of diesel fuel which can be more serious.
Neither of these products remove water from the fuel! The alcohol simply mixes with any free water which may be present within the fuel system thereby preventing it from freezing. Hence the name, gasoline anti-freeze. This free non-frozen water is then removed from the system in one of two ways, 1) it may make it's way into the engine and be purged or 2) it may be reabsorbed into the fuel when fresh fuel is added to the tank.
In the event you are using blended gasoline (E-10) adding additional alcohol is not required. Any free water which may be present will contain alcohol and will not freeze.
If your Polaris is not running due to water in the fuel you could have 1) frozen water in the fuel preventing flow to the engine or 2) a fuel line/carburetor bowl filled with water. In either case I would suggest draining the carburetor, fuel line and change out any fuel filter etc., then
attempt to start the engine. If it is cold in your area and you are using non-blended gasoline (without Ethanol) you may want to add a bottle of Iso-HEET to prevent freezing. Good Luck
