Billy I did some more research this evening. The filter cup between the original 3010 and 4000 where the same one. The one you have been using on your 4000 is not the correct one even for it.( the JD part number you posted is not a good number. It has too many digits) The one you have had to be for a JD 2940,2840 or 2640. It is too deep. So you have not been filtering the oil even on your JD 4000. The cup will fit but it will not seal the internal filter like it should.
JD does not make a ported cup to fit the early 10 and 20 series tractors. They wanted you to plumb the loaders through the SCvs. Returning the oil to the filter cup is the correct way to go but you will need to just drill your cup to make it work.
