I remember looking for a pair of work boots 30 + years ago, like you I wanted flat soles. At that time the only place I could find them was Red Wing but as a broke college student I couldn't afford the tariff and Red Wings had a real high arch support that didn't match my flat feet so lived with the lugs even though they were hard on the greens. After joining the Air Force I found some issue boots had a less aggressive sole. Over the years I have found some Rocky's that had a vibram sole, but then work issued a steel toe mandate and this boot wasn't available in steel toe. Rendering plants are heck on boots so I started getting cheaper boots 'cause they'd only last about 6-8 months. Some of the Duty boots folks in Kentucky like Gall's or US Cavalry sell can be bought in a finer sole but usually only come in black. After starting for the county I switched to black steel toed boots or oxfords they usually didn't have big lugs on them. So Red wings or Duty boots from a Military or Cop Shop supplier.
