I forgot to add why I adjusted the distributor - I couldn't use my timing light (and see the timing marks) to see if it was properly timed. So I tried adjusting everything using the distributor (back and forth) till I found the 'sweet spot.'
This past spring I installed a new distributor cap, plugs, points/condenser, gapped the plugs and points to spec.
I guess I'm curious why the tractor won't run in higher gear ranges?
On a side note - My tractor as a whole has had an interesting history, the block cracked in 1993 with 179.9 hours and I had it rebuilt in 2005. I only have 30 hours on the rebuild since then.
