I have a White 8600 combine that has a non turbo perkins 354 diesel. My problem with is that it was loosing power and finally died and will not restart. It has a electric fuel pump beneath the fuel tank. I had cleaned the screen on the sediment bowl and replaced the fuel filters and put on a new electic fuel pump. When I open the petcock on the side of the injector pump to let the air out, I get good fuel flow and then it will quit with only air bubbles and then nothing. If I crank on it long enoughi will get good fuel flow again and then nothing. Fuel seems to coming out of the bottom of the tank at a good enough rate. The electic fuel pump seems to be pumping enough fuel. The engine does also have a mechanical lift pump that does not work and I do not think that has worked for some time according the the prevoius owner. Fuel flow seems to be the problem. Could the mechanical lift pump diagram have gone bad and plugged the line? I am at my wits end. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
