Kyle; If I were you, I would seriously reconsider buying your own combine. Given your limited acreage and, I assume, limited budget your available funds would likely pay better if put towards a better planter, sprayer and or tractor. Timeliness is extremely important in planting and weed/pest control whereas there is a wider window for harvesting corn and soybeans. Your neighbor and friends with all the wagons and trucks likely have a combine (or use a reliable custom operator) and you could likely arrange to have your acreage done. Even if the custom operator charges $ 40/A times 50 acres, that is only $2,000. Any old combine is going to cost you a lot in repairs plus fuel and time. While it is nice to be completely independant it is costly. Just something for you to consider. BTDT!!
