I have one that the manual says to let it run out of gas. It surges a bit too as it's running out of gas. That shouldn't hurt it any. Mine is a 7500 watt Generac with 15 HP single cylinder engine. I use Stabil mixed in the gas. My auto parts store recently told me that Seafoam is a better gas additive.
