Three things I made sure my kids understood were;

It's on you. It may be your "fault", it may not, but how you respond is on you.

There were no excuses for your actions. There where consequences and they better accept them.

If you are smart enough to know you have a problem, you are smart enough to deal with it.

Sad but true story;

When my oldest was around 9 she was told by the Ex that she didn’t have to listen to anybody. My Ex was one of those snooty “not my fault” people. Well she goes to school and proceeds to become disruptive in class because she doesn’t have to do what the teacher says. I was called to the school one day and told it was my fault by a cross eyed school administrator. I told him I could fix it and to give me a couple minutes with my daughter. I busted her but right there and then, followed by a little talk. The administrator asked me to stick around so he could talk to me after sending her back to class. While sitting in the office talking to this clown two cops showed up and proceed to haul me off to jail. County took all three kids, offered my Ex free air fare to come get the kids (she was 1000 miles away) and charged me with felony child abuse.

Five grand and about 3 months later, case is finally thrown out of court, I have the kids back. Ex didn’t want them and turned down the county. My oldest says to me “you can’t spank me, they told me so. I looked her right in the eye and said “you wan‘a bet?” Problem solved, well at least until she turned 17, that was a whole other nightmare………

She’s good now though.

Today's Featured Article - Hydraulics - Cylinder Anatomy - by Curtis von Fange. Let’s make one more addition to our series on hydraulics. I’ve noticed a few questions in the comment section that could pertain to hydraulic cylinders so I thought we could take a short look at this real workhorse of the circuit. Cylinders are the reason for the hydraulic circuit. They take the fluid power delivered from the pump and magically change it into mechanical power. There are many types of cylinders that one might run across on a farm scenario. Each one could take a chapter in ... [Read Article]
