Part of the problem is parents want to be their kids friends and not the parents. Like parents buying booze for highschool parties.
The rod is not spared at our house. Our kids aren't perfect but they do work when then need to.
Oldest one went to the Indiana academy for her Jr/Sr years of high school, kinda like a super high school mini-college deal. Graduated high school with 15 credits. End of her sophomore college fall semester she'll have enough hours to be a JUnior will be close to "senior credits" by spring I think. No cars were allowed at academy so we didn't let her get her license until she was 18. No need to double the insurance $ when she couldn't drive anyway. HUGE break in insurance if you wait to 18. we know a few folks that haven't let their kids drive. I know a couple is was due to the insurance $ and were "good" kids...
