Well I kind of let it go as I was tired of being called all types of things about that post.
Here is how it stands right now.
1) BTO's insurance paid his share of the agreed settlement. Farm owner paid his share. Young farmer has not paid his share. He did not have farm liability insurance that covered property damage. County is hot on him to pay. It is some where in the 30K range. They will never get it, kind of blood from a turnip deal.
2) Old man has the young farmer/renter in court right now getting the lease ended.
3) The young farmer found out he was not really needed after harvest by the BTO. So he is now unemployed. Can't draw unemployment as he quit the long time job to go to the BTO. Long time employer will not sign off on him drawing against them and he did not work long enough for the BTO to draw against him. I think he will eventually get to draw but it will not be simple.
4) My son is still working for the welding out fit. Has even been moved up to full time with benefits. I saw his boss in town a few weeks ago and he said my son is doing well. So that should work out well for my son as the welding guy has a good reputation of paying well and has a lot of long term employees.
5) Farm owner wants us to rent his ground. I don't want to get in the middle. I am trying to talk him into doing it like we used to do it. We did the work on a custom basis. We planted the crop and harvested it. He had the local Coop do the spraying and fertilize application. He has some risk this way but he has more profit potential than just straight cash rent. His farm does not lend itself to the really large equipment so he will not get the real crazy money from rent anyway.
