Two real issues with the idea. (nothing but experience talking) The Non Power steering unit is weak and has near impossible to find parts. Twisting it with a torque generator will most certainly reduce its lifespan, if not just break it. The second issue is that the Hydraulic system is not open center. Meaning it is not under pressure until the pilot valve is moved to pressurize the valves attached. The use of the appropriate steering diverter/priority valve from IH is realistically the only solution.
My suggestion is to use a Jackson Power Steering system, or a linkage assist type steering. These use the existing system, but put the assist into the linkage not the steering box. Best of luck, I seem adamant because I do not want you hurt, or wasting your time. Respectfully Jim
