Don't understand why people don't put it out by the street with a "Free" sign on it, rather than throwing it in the dumpster. I've gotten rid of a lot of stuff that way- its pretty painless.
When daughter was in college, lots of stuff would go out by the street at end of term, when kids were moving out. She was looking at a decent couch, and wondering how to get it home, when a kid with a pickup stopped. He said he wanted it too, and said, "lets flip for it- if you win, I'll haul it to your place; If I win, you help me load it and I take it." She agreed, he flipped, and she lost. So she smiled and said, "Well, that's the way it goes, let's load it up!" They did, and the kid said, "I was just kidding about that deal, you were here first, its yours- I just wanted to see if you were a whiner." And he took it to her place. And asked her for a date. And she turned him down, because she had a boyfriend. And to his credit, he didn't whine, either. And after she broke up with boyfriend, she opined that perhaps she should have accepted the date, after all.
