Stone work like that always amazes me. Sheer crafstmanship. We have a number of stone houses around that have withstood the test of time. Those old stonemasons must have known what they were doing, especially how to mix durable mortar. Then there's the procuring the rocks - hauling by hand from the fields. I hate rock picking, and I have modern machinery to help! Really hated it as a kid, having to lift everything to wagon bed, and unload it all again into stone pile. Don't ask how wet I got on a very cold day when uncle decided to unload a load to shore up the creek bank down by the bridge!
