One if my friends was reminiscing, when he was a kid if you brought a gun to school it meant you had to sit in the front of the bus, leave it in the principal's office and pick it up after school so you could rabbit hunt your way home. AND if you messed up and shot someone you went to the police department and turned yourself in because the police would probably give you a better deal than Mom & Dad, (Michigan didn't have capital punishment). Seems I remember some where in one of my humanities classes from college something about the contract between man and society. That to live in a society you give up or restrain some of your natural rights, but as part of the deal society would return to you additional protections.
