I'm not sure you can depend on what a breed will do unless you get it from a serious breeder. Indescriment breeding puppy mills have ruined a large percentage of most breeds. My first preferance would be a dog that has been with it's mother from birth for 6 months or more and impressed current owner by showing caracteristics you are looking for. I aggree on a medium size in case he decides to wade in rather than continue barking. You may be out a doctor bill if he atacks the new UPS guy but that's better than having a Rot.x Pit cross tearing him in 3 pieces before you get to them.
