Had a plymouth acclaim, I think 97, that I got from my sister. Had 100,000 miles on it, but the trany wouldn't shift. It was the 3rd time for her since new. Worked in low and reverse, but no shifting. Thought I would just get a used trany and put in, but a machanic friend said he might be able to fix it. I took it to him, he looked at it for a sec, then said get in. He took off down the street about as fast as he could get it going in low gear, then through the shift into park, let it grind for a second then shifted back into drive. It immediatly shifted up and worked great. He said they had a problem with the governors that did the shifting. They were made to such close tolerances that anything could make them stick. The park pin was attached to that housing and the grinding from that would knock it loose. Had to do that a few times a year, but the car ran to over 300,000 miles. This was a non overdrive auto trany.
